• Bead – 1/8” Gold bead
• Thread – Black 6/0
• Tail - :light brown Chickabou feather fiber's with three strands of pearl Krystal Flash
• Body – 4 strands of yellow floss
• Hackle – 1 grizzly and 1 brown saddle hackle size 12-14

Materials

·       Hook – Firehole 570 BL 60 degree 1 XL jig hook size 14-16

·       Thread – Uni 6/0, color to match body

·       Bead 3/32” tungsten, color to match body

o   Size 10-11 glass bead, color to match body

·       Pin – Size 17 straight pin cut to provide 3 bead widths beyond jig bend and extend ½ way down shaft

·       Tail – Hareline Magnum Rabbit strip fur, color to match body

·       Dubbing – Hareline Senyo Laser Dub, color to match body

Randy is a long time member of Southern Oregon Fly Fishers, a frequent attendee at SOFT meetings and Rogue River steelhead fisherman.  Tuesday, December 12^th he will be tying two flies – Dave Whitlock’s Red Squirrel Tail Nymph and his favorite October Caddis pattern, both of which have proven productive this fall.

David McCants is a true master fly tier and a member of the Whiting Fly Tying Feathers ProTeam. Dave McCants offers fly tying classes, for beginners to advanced fly tiers, these classes are also held in his "Tying Den" in Concord, California. Dave has been an avid fly angler for 45 years and has tied flies for 44 years for personal use and commercial. He believes that catching a fish, with a fly tied with your own hands, makes you a more successful fly angler.

Dave is also the President of Southern Oregon Fly Tyers

 Tom has tied at numerous shows around the country each year. Most recently he was at the 2023 FFI Rendezvous in Branson MO.  He is a member of the Dr Slick Pro Team, the  FFI Tying Group, and Project Healing Waters.  Tom has assisted teaching tying at Southern Oregon Women on the Fly, been a mentor tor The Mayfly Project and assisted teaching Fly Tying at Cascade Christian High School.

Mystery solved

 Hey folks,

The cigar box mystery is solved, case closed.  The box was inadvertently placed in the clear plastic bin that Dave McCants uses.

Post meeting notes for September

 Hey everyone thanks for attending our September meeting.   Kevin Daniels, our guest tyer did a wonderful job as usual.  I especially enjoy the fly tyer's tricks, as well as, the group participation.  

We are still looking for someone to handle our raffle.  Please contact Dave McCants if you are interested.

Speaking of the raffle, someone mistakenly took one of the raffle winnings containing a cigar box with flies and perhaps some materials.  Please contact Dave McCants so we can get the raffle winnings to the rightful owner.   (Dave McCants) at davetyer177@gmail.com
