APRIL, 14th MEETING
The April meeting of the Southern Oregon Fly Tyers will feature Paul Wolflick as our tying demonstrator. Paul always has a pattern or two that are unique and productive.
I have been assured that we will have some great raffle prizes this month, so bring a few extra bucks and try your luck. Congratulations to our members, Dave and Kathy Hamilton for winning the Fly Tier of the Year award at the IFFF Oregon Council Expo last month in Albany. They truly deserved it.
COMING UP
The Southern Oregon Fly Fishers will be holding their annual Fly Tyers Meeting on Thursday April, 16th at the Taprock Event Center in Grants Pass. Over 15 tyers will be demonstrating their skills and talents. Everyone can learn something new at this event.
The May meeting of the SOFT club will feature a special guest from Cottage Grove, Oregon. Bob Wolf will be doing a special program on midges. It will include entomology, fishing and tying techniques. This is a Power Point presentation and features a tie along segment. We will have materials there for everyone who wants to learn the patterns Bob calls his Magic Midge series. I watched him tie at Albany and Lewiston last month. You don’t want to miss this one. Bring your tools and a notepad.
We are a group of Fly Tyers who want to improve our tying skills. We come from as far north as Roseburg, Oregon and as far south as Yreka, California to converge on Gold Hill, Oregon. We are all different skill levels but we agree on the joy of Fly Tying.

MARCH FLY TYING DEMONSTRATION
The march meeting of the Southern Oregon Fly Tyers will feature a tying demonstration by Dan Kellogg. He will be tying a Classic Irish Salmon Fly. Many of the Irish flies were predecessors of our modern day Steelhead patterns. In the proper sizes they have proven to take the “Steely” on the Rogue and in smaller sizes many Trout. They are colorful and fun to tie. Most hair wing patterns can be tied with common materials and standard techniques. So bring your paper and pencil to take notes and your camera for a picture or two. Don’t miss this one, there might even be a couple in the raffle.
Speaking of raffles, We will have a great one this month with lots of tying materials and accessories. Each person will receive a free ticket for a special item for one winning number. We will also put out the remaining items from Paul Cooks collection at drastically reduced prices with the proceeds going to the Chris Barnum collage fund. There will be lots of free items to take away too.
Bring a friend, it’s always a good time. The coffee is free and there might even be cookies.

Fly Tying in Idaho
Hi all-
First off, thank you for committing to demonstrating your tying skills at our Expo this year! Without you guys (and gals!)--well, the show just really wouldn't be very good! We sure do appreciate your time and energy that you so graciously donate.
The show is quickly approaching and I am still in search of some more fly tiers to demonstrate. If you know of any tiers in your local area, that may be interested in joining us, please feel free to share the information with them. (I have attached the info again if you would like to pass it along to anyone).
As a reminder, the Expo is March 20 & 21st at the Clearwater River Lodge & Event Center, here in Lewiston, ID.
I look forward to seeing you all again and meeting those I haven't yet! This year is gonna be a great one!

January 13, 2015 Meeting
Cathy Hamilton will be presenting "Three and a Half Different Ways to Weave a Fly" at the January 13 SOFT meeting. This will be a techniques demonstration, rather than a demonstration of any specific flies. If you're interested in trying any of the weaving techniques, just bring a few hooks (size 8 or 10 with a straight shank will be perfect for this), along with your vise, tools, and any color of thread. Cathy will provide some cotton floss that you can use for the weaving.
January’s meeting will also feature another informative presentation by Dave Roberts on Game Bird Feathers and their usage. He will have examples of skins so come prepared with your questions.
Meeting starts at 6:00 pm.
