The December SOFT meeting will
be held on Tuesday the 8th and will feature tying demonstrations by Dave and
Cathy Hamilton. These two received the Fly Tyers of the Year Award from the
Oregon Council at the Expo in Albany last spring so we are in for a real treat
this month. Dave plans to tie some chironomid patterns and a feruled red worm.
Cathy will demo the Bitch Creek Nymph, a well known woven pattern. Don’t miss
this one , it’s two for the price of one. Meeting starts at 6 pm and the demos
will start at 6:30. Bring some flies or materials for the raffle and bring a
friend or fellow fly tier. If everyone will bring some goodies the club will
provide some Holiday beverages.
We are a group of Fly Tyers who want to improve our tying skills. We come from as far north as Roseburg, Oregon and as far south as Yreka, California to converge on Gold Hill, Oregon. We are all different skill levels but we agree on the joy of Fly Tying.

Flies for Waterwatch
Dear SOFT fly tyers and donors. WaterWatch very much appreciates the flies that you tie and donate every year. They bring in a considerable amount of funding at the annual WaterWatch auction and are very much appreciated by all those who get to view them and bid on them. In order to better facilitate getting the flies inserted in fly boxes and getting them to the auction committee in time for them to be properly processed in a timely manner, SOFT is adopting the following guidelines.
Flies need to be turned in by the second Tuesday of May, which is our final meeting before we break for the summer. Any flies turned in after that date will be carried over to the following year. Flies don't need to be in fly boxes. SOFT will supply enough fly boxes to WaterWatch to hold all the flies. We will turn the flies and fly boxes over to WaterWatch for their processing. Again, any flies turned in after the second Tuesday in May will be carried over to the following year, but are still very much needed and appreciated. Thank you for your donation, participation, and cooperation.

SOFT Meeting on Tuesday, November 10th
The November SOFT meeting will feature the second part of a presentation on wet flies entitled
"The Incredible Soft Hackle" by Dan Kellogg. There will be some history, material and reference
information and tying demonstration of some favorite patterns.
WHO ARE THE SOUTHERN OREGON FLY TYERS?
We're just a friendly group of fly tyers who like to get together at least once a month to tie flies. We have no formal structure, no officers, except for a few dearly beloved deceased members, and no dues. Anyone can be a member. Just come to the meetings.
The building will open at 5:30 PM for setup and chit chat, but the meeting won't begin until 6:00. All tyers, whether experienced or inexperienced, all are welcome. Heck, you can come even if you aren't a tyer. You’re welcome to watch, ask questions, drink coffee, eat cookies, and just hang out.
We've been running a bucket raffle at the last few meeting with lots of goodies up for grabs. It's always handy to bring a few extra dollars. There's always something for sale, and tips and donations are very welcome.
We have a different demonstration tyer at each meeting, usually followed by a tie-along session. The pattern and materials required will be posted to this blog. Bring your tools, lights, extension cords, and materials to learn a new pattern to add to your arsenal. Lots of fun for all, along with coffee and some cookies.
Please invite a friend and forward blog address on to anyone else who might be interested. Come early so you don't miss anything, and stay late. We've invited several new tyers to attend our

Discussed will be some history, styles, patterns, authors, and demos on a couple of his favorites. It should be informative and educational, a good way to start the fly tying season.
