Tom Says:

I have been tying fly’s for on and off, 50 years.  I started in my early teens in Northern Colorado. I have tied all types of trout dry, streamer and nymph patterns. I moved to Grants Pass in 2014.  This is when I became enamored with the classic Steelhead and Salmon patterns. For the past couple of years, I have been concentrating my tying to the Victorian era Atlantic Salmon Fly Patterns.

I am currently on the Dr. Slick Pro Staff and Daiichi hooks Pro Staff.  In addition, I am a member of Project Healing Waters Fly-Fishing, Fly-Fishing Veterans, The Mayfly Project, Southern Oregon Fly Fishers and Southern Oregon Fly Tyers.  In 2023 I was awarded Top Tyer at the East Idaho Fly Tying & Flyfishing Expo.

Tom will be tying:

Blue Charm Fly (var.)

A. H. Wood who is recognized as the “father of floating lines” is credited as the originator of the Blue Charm and the fly pattern appears in Kelson's book "The Salmon Fly", published in 1895. The hair wing fly that I am tying is a more modern variant originally tied in the 1950's by John Reidpath of Inverness, Nova Scotia.  The Blue Charm is an effective low water pattern for Steelhead and Salmon.
