Kevin Daniels, our guest tyer did a wonderful job as usual. I especially enjoy the fly tyer's tricks, as well as, the group participation. </p><p>We are still looking for someone to handle our raffle. Please contact Dave McCants if you are interested.</p><p>Speaking of the raffle, someone mistakenly took one of the raffle winnings containing a cigar box with flies and perhaps some materials. Please contact Dave McCants so we can get the raffle winnings to the rightful owner. <span style="font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px;"><span style="font-family: Arial, "sans-serif";">(Dave McCants) at davetyer177@gmail.com</span></span></p><p>Thanks again for your participation in the Southern Oregon Fly Tyers.</p><p>Dale</p>Redfish70http://www.blogger.com/profile/17622745126410972083noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6068264513334858130.post-10652298557806141692023-08-28T10:24:00.000-07:002023-08-28T10:24:53.583-07:00<p> </p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-outline-level: 3;"><b><span style="color: #333333; font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; font-size: 13.5pt;">Sept 12th,

trying to get bass to strike can be painful at times especially if the

Noise attracts all bass and by adding a rattle to our fly will get their
attention. I tie the rattler in two forms, the streamer for stripping and
the clouser for jigging, both seem to work very well and have saved many a

combination of two colors of marabou twisted together with the thread make a
better simulation than a solid color and is much more durable. This method
can be used for other delicate materials like peacock herl. Use the natural
tapers of the longest marabou fibers to your advantage by tying them in tip
first. This creates a soft, flowing, tapered, natural chenille. Many color
variations are possible. Try a black pearl glass bead head, plastic bead eye,
a Swiss Straw wingcase, Mylar ribbing, wire ribbing, a peacock herl head,
olive Angora goat for legs or a full soft hackle.<o:p></o:p></p>

Tie in a very small clump of Egg Veil protruding forward from eye, trim short, whip finish and cut thread. Remove hook from vise, pinch barb then feed 2mm bead over wraps to eye. Using 12/0 Nano Silk, secure Ultra Wire on top of shank from inside bead all the way down the shank nearly to the apex of the hook bend and wrap thread back up to the bead. </p><p style="font-family: Calibri; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify;">With the red marker, touch it to the thread base at the hook bend enough that it bleeds to cover half the shank. Now, run the olive marker over the loose thread from the bobbin to the fly and wrap back to overlap the red and back up to the bead. Tie a half hitch and anchor the bobbin out of the way. </p><p style="font-family: Calibri; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify;">Wrap the wire forward to the bead, so you end up with seven wraps. Chuck Huntington grew up fly fishing and tying primarily for selective trout in tailwaters and spring creeks. His fishing experiences have since diversified to include freestone rivers, steelhead, and the pursuit of a variety of lake-dwelling species. After retiring (or doing his best to do so), Chuck has rebalanced his life from decades spent as an overworked consulting aquatic biologist who fished too little and has returned to his roots as a fly-fishing bum. </span><b style="caret-color: rgb(29, 34, 40); color: #1d2228; font-size: 21.333334px;"> See photos and recipes at the bottom of the posting.</b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; line-height: 15.693334px; margin: 0in 0in 8pt;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><o:p></o:p></span></p><p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: center;"><b></b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8GGCvN-oYRVLp_1GXU7ja7LvXsWp7ZLz843doiiikAUi-O8FS05Auextcjzq1GJ-0l0-YVbUiPR5W9D_pyEFTotuDJczGJX148NUA8J39YiwsdZudW7lp0FVFUXVGUx-EQQxKq0uB7_94TXC9Ify02FSWhc5EWqvTdFdA7zdgog3qdgAvf-Re6bnEzA/s504/Screenshot%202022-11-30%20at%206.26.07%20AM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="488" data-original-width="504" height="388" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8GGCvN-oYRVLp_1GXU7ja7LvXsWp7ZLz843doiiikAUi-O8FS05Auextcjzq1GJ-0l0-YVbUiPR5W9D_pyEFTotuDJczGJX148NUA8J39YiwsdZudW7lp0FVFUXVGUx-EQQxKq0uB7_94TXC9Ify02FSWhc5EWqvTdFdA7zdgog3qdgAvf-Re6bnEzA/w400-h388/Screenshot%202022-11-30%20at%206.26.07%20AM.png" width="400" /></a></b></div><b><br /><span style="font-size: 18pt;"><br /></span></b><p></p><p align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; text-align: center;"><b><span style="font-size: 18pt;"><br /></span></b></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="caret-color: rgb(51, 51, 51); color: #333333; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; font-size: 14.85px; margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;"><b><i><span style="color: #1d2228; font-size: 16pt;">Now that the Pandemic has subsided perhaps we can get back to somewhat normal activities. This was a much needed discussion about the aftermath of the pandemic and the upset of our normal activities. Attendance and participation has been disrupted and we need to bring it back. Everyone knows and understands that communication is key to our survival. How to have effective communication is still a struggle for some more than others. Another topic was that SOFT was concentrated in too few people. The work and responsibilities need to be spread out to insure our survival if someone gets sick or some other emergency. Dave has way too many things on his plate. Say thank you to Dave and volunteer to relieve him of some of his tasks. John Smith has taken on the responsibility of scheduling our guest fly tyers and is doing a marvelous job. Say thank you to John.</div><br /><div>###############################################################################</div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: x-large;"><b>Brian Chan is the speaker at the SOFF meeting.
